Car rental terms and conditions

Everything you need to know before you rent with ONWAY in Chania, written as clearly as we can. If anything is unclear, just ask us on WhatsApp.

Rental agreement

The renter receives the car after checking that it is in the condition recorded in the rental agreement. ONWAY E.E. confirms that the vehicle has passed all necessary checks, inside, outside and mechanically.

The renter must return the car in the same condition, with all tools, wheels and accessories, at the agreed place and to an ONWAY E.E. employee. If the car is not returned to the agreed place and to an employee of the company, it is considered abandoned, with the legal consequences this brings in case of damage or debt to the company.

Required documents

  • A valid driving licence for every declared driver
  • An International Driving Permit, if required (see Driving licence and age)
  • Passport or national ID for every declared driver

All booking details, online or by phone, must be valid. We reserve the right to refuse the rental if the booking details are not valid.

Driving licence and age

The driving licence must have been issued at least one year before the pick-up date. National driving licences issued in the EU are accepted. Citizens of all other countries must also hold a valid International Driving Permit together with their national licence.

Driver age: drivers must be between 21 and 75 years old.

Bookings and car groups

All bookings are made by car group, not by a specific model. We always try to provide the model you chose. If it becomes unavailable, we may offer a similar model from the same group. We may also offer a car from a higher group at no extra charge (free upgrade).

Rental length and extensions

The minimum booking length is a few hours and the maximum is 30 days. The minimum booking length may vary depending on the season, availability and pick-up location. The minimum rental charge is one day.

For rentals longer than 30 days, please contact us for a quote, as the rental agreement must be renewed every 30 days.

To keep the car longer than agreed, contact us at least two days before the agreed return and ask for an extension. Extensions depend on availability and are valid only once the rental agreement has been updated.

Payment

We do not ask for a deposit. The full rental amount is paid when you pick up the car, by cash or by credit, debit or prepaid card.

Cancellation and no-show

To cancel your booking, send us a cancellation email and wait for our confirmation that we have received it.

  • No cancellation fee applies if we receive your cancellation at least 7 days before the pick-up date and time.
  • If we receive your cancellation less than 7 days before the pick-up date and time, 20% of the total booking amount is charged.

No-show: if the renter does not collect the car within 2 hours of the agreed pick-up time without a written update, the booking may be cancelled automatically and 50% of the total booking amount is charged.

Late returns

In low and mid season, a delay of up to 1 hour is not charged. In high season, the maximum delay without extra charge is 30 minutes.

If the car is returned later than these limits without an agreed extension, the renter is charged per day at the daily seasonal rate for those dates.

Fuel policy

The car must be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up. If it is returned with less fuel, the renter is charged the fuel difference plus a €15 refuelling fee. There is no refund for extra fuel. The renter pays for the fuel used during the rental.

Child seats and additional drivers

  • Baby seat: 0 to 18 kg
  • Child seat or booster seat: 18 to 36 kg

Child seats are free of charge on request and subject to availability. Additional drivers are free of charge.

Cleaning charge

If the car is returned very dirty, a cleaning charge of €60 plus VAT applies.

If the police or another authority removes the number plates during the rental, the renter must compensate the company immediately. The amount is the number of days without plates multiplied by the daily rental price for the current season.

The renter must look after the car, check its mechanical condition, oil, water and tyres, and make sure it is safe to drive. The renter is responsible for any damage caused by lack of care, and must park and lock the car properly in a suitable, safe place.

During the rental, the car must not be used:

  • In breach of these rental terms
  • To carry passengers or goods for payment
  • To carry more passengers than allowed
  • To carry heavy objects, strong smelling goods or drugs
  • To tow another car or trailer
  • In any kind of race
  • For any purpose that breaks Greek law
  • Outside Crete without our written permission

We are not responsible for the loss of or damage to personal items. We may end the rental agreement without consequences if the renter acts against the company’s interests or breaks the traffic laws or these rental terms.
